The training course will be run in partnership with Community Bikes where we will spend a few weeks training the youths in bicycle maintenance. Combined with training in customer service through the use of Spear.
The Mechanic training will be broken down so that youths are taught to strip and reassemble a bicycle whilst learning how to adjust and repair the components of the bike. Youths will be assigned their own bike that they will continue to work on until the bicycle is deemed safe and road worthy.
To accommodate for different speeds of learning, the course technically has no end date. If they have not stripped and reassembled a safe bicycle, minimal of once, by the date of the pop up, they will NOT be allowed to work on any bikes on that date. This is to ensure that customers are able to cycle away after their servicing with confidence.
Spear will then take the mechanics for theory knowledge in customer service, where they then take an exam. This is to ensure that customers are being spoken to correctly, and building positive relationships with their mechanic.
